Overview

Murata Machinery USA offers reliable machine tool technology, automated material handling, and textile machinery. The company’s lean IT team maintains six facilities across four divisions, comprising approximately 550 dispersed end users, 1,000 endpoints, and 2,000 customer servers. This network complexity was exacerbated by the fact it used different cybersecurity systems in each of its divisions.

Murata has subsequently standardized its networking and security on the Fortinet Security Fabric, including FortiGate Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), FortiGuard AI-Powered Security Services, FortiSwitch enterprise switches, and FortiAP wireless access points. Additionally, Murata uses Fortinet solutions to enable secure access from anywhere, endpoint detection and response, and user authentication. The company also uses security operations (SecOps) systems from Fortinet, including the FortiGuard Security Operations Center-as-a-Service (SOCaaS) for 24x7 security monitoring. Finally, Murata has deployed the FortiSASE secure access service edge for enhanced security across its remote workforce and cloud applications. The simplified network management and always-on security coverage from Fortinet saves Murata’s IT team significant time and effort, while dramatically improving its security posture.

“Thanks to the increased visibility that we have with the FortiGuard SOC-as-a-Service, we get a much clearer picture of what happened if there is an incident. So, we can more easily educate the impacted user on how to avoid a similar situation in the future.”

– Bill Konecy, IT Manager, Murata Machinery USA
